Equipment and Editing Tools and Techniques

In the world of Photography there are a lot of things to consider in taking an image. You need to think about the setting and equipment you are going to use, and let's not forget there is also the editing. Photography is also split up into different categories like fashion, nature, real estate, advertisement, fine art and more. Personally, I do not have a favourite category as I am still learning all of these styles. What I will do is explain some of the basic tools and techniques I like to follow on just a random shoot.

Starting with equipment I do not have all of the things I will mention but I am aiming to get this equipment. Something I consider first is which camera lens am I going to need and do I need a tripod. I have 3 lenses, the kit lens, 50mm lens and the zoom lens. It is important to consider the lens as to take better images. From my experience, the kit lens can be used for various kinds of photography while the 50mm lens is more limited but much better for taking images in a low light setting like at night. Since I do not have an easier way of travelling, I have to think about what I will need to carry with me and I try not to get too many things. I always make sure I have sd cards and check that they are empty and working well beforehand. When I know I have a long shoot and I will be in an environment where there is electricity, I also take my camera battery charger just in case.

Some of the equipment I would like to have that could help me improve my images is a remote shutter release, external flash and even a reflector. Having this equipment will give me the chance to experiment better and get better looking images. For example, the remote shutter release could help in taking better self portraits or be able to experiment more using the shutter speed. A reflector could help give a better glow to the model or better light a set up. The external flash would be very useful to better light what I want to shoot and position the light better than if I were to use the camera flash.
Equipment

Just like equipment, editing is also very important and I feel that is what could make or break your photos. Depending on what you are editing you need to make sure that everything still looks natural unless you are going for a surreal look. I am not as experienced with Photoshop so I try not to use it as much and only edit images when I feel like there really is the need to. I also try my best to take the images look good on the spot to be able to leave them raw. When I do use Photoshop, I go for the camera raw filter setting to fix my images. In the past I have used Photoshop, to super impose an image and I can't begin to list the tools I use on it. I have previously used other programs to edit my images but I always fall back to Photoshop because I can find everything I need on it.
